60th Anniversary of the Silchester Magazine.
The first copy of the magazine was published in April 1959 and has been in production continuously since then.
The Silchester Association was pleased to be able to support this event and help with the magazine displays
There were some amazing snippets of village history to be gleaned from these issues and it makes fascinating reading.
Nancy and Marsden Jones have been involved with the production and distribution of the magazine for the past 39 years!
Nancy Jones gave a short talk at 3pm about the history of the magazine after which Rob Young presented them with a set of engraved glass goblets in recognition of their long service
Nearly one hundred people came along to enjoy the exhibition and sample the delicious cakes provided by Suzi and Jane
An interesting item turned up on the day - a front cover from a Silchester magazine dating back to May 1901 priced at 1d. Clearly more research is needed.
Our first edition is no. 192 but it had previously been thought that before this time, the publication was simply a newsletter.
